Ambassador Layi Kayode IyandaAmbassador lyanda had his early education at the Baptist Central School, Baptist Modern School and Irepo Grammar School all in lgboho.
He obtained the West African Examination Certificate (WAEC) with distinction in 1969. Ambassador Iyanda had a stint as a primary school teacher and bank clerk with the defunct National Bank of Nigeria before he proceeded to the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, at Ile-Ife, for undergraduate studies leading to the award of first degree in Law, L.LB (Hons) in June 1975. Immediately after the one year national youth service which he did in South Eastern Nigeria from June 1975 to July 1976, he joined the Federal Civil Service as Foreign Service Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he served for thirty-one years from August 1976 to April 2007 before he retired having been appointed as an Ambassador by the President of Nigeria.
In his thirty-one years of meritorious service to the nation, Ambassador lyanda served in various capacities both at home in Nigeria and abroad. He began his diplomatic career in Vienna, Austria and served in Warsaw, Poland, San Francisco, USA, N'djamena, Chad and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he served as Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative to the African Union. At the Headquarters in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he served as Director in the Legal Department and Cabinet Office of the Minister.
In the diplomatic career spanning over thirty years, the last twenty years of which was basically on international, political and development issues, Ambassador lyanda participated in Assembly sessions, major conferences and meetings of the African Union on political, security and socio-economic issues. Indeed, he was one of the major architects of the transformation of the Organization of African Union (OAU) to the African Union (AU) as he was the author of several of the drafts of the major instruments of the continental organization. He has recorded notable achievements in legal drafting, negotiation of international agreements, conventions and treaties, conflict management, human security and socio- economic development issues. Ambassador Iyanda is widely travelled and has visited most countries in Africa and Europe, North and South America and Asia. He is a Christian, is happily married and blessed with five children and a grandson.
